BT Ireland

Esat Telecom was established in 1994 and has been growing ever since.  With a state of the art optical infrastructure covering the whole of Ireland, it entered the submarine cable industry with two submarine cables, Esat-1 and Esat-2, commissioned in 1999 and 2000 respectively.  In 2000 Esat Telecom was purchased by BT, which allowed Esat Telecom (now BT Ireland) to continue operating as an Irish owned telecom operator.  This advantage allowed BT Ireland to continue and grow its strategy, both nationally and internationally via its submarine cable system.  The two cables transverse the Irish Sea from two different locations and offer a fully diverse network connecting Wexford to Cornwall and Dublin to Southport.  The strategic location of the cable stations allows for two different connects or one fully diverse connection to anywhere in the UK and Europe.
